History of the University
Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK. It originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh in 1821 and, in 1966, became a University by Royal Charter. More than a quarter of its 7000 on-campus students in Scotland are from outside the UK and this international focus is also demonstrated by the 10,000 students worldwide studying on its international programmes. Heriot-Watt University is one of the UK's leading research institutions having been rated at the highest level by the national review body, the RAE.

External Programmes students achieve exactly the same internationally recognised qualification as those who attend the University in the UK. Heriot-Watt University is often called 'UK's international University, it has two major student campuses in Scotland, a campus in Dubai and over 50 international academic learning partners. The External Programmes (School of Management and Languages) currently has 15 Approved Learning Partners in 13 different countries. Each of its partners including BiMS offer quality assured teaching and learning support.

The Bachelor of Business Administration offers the greatest flexibility to students and allows students to progress through stages. The course is integrated and structured so that students will study the fundamentals of management, accounting, and finance at HND level (which is equivalent to stage 1 & 2). Graduates with a BBA degree will be equipped to work in a variety of general management and professional positions. BiMS is the approved learning partner of Heriot-Watt University in Bangladesh. British Council is the authorised centre for conducting final stage exams on behalf of the University.
